Nigerian Army confirms and resolves brief Cameroonian military incursion in Cross River border community
The Nigerian Army’s 82 Division has confirmed an incident involving the unauthorized entry of personnel from the Cameroonian Armed Forces into Danare community in Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State on 9 June 2026.

In a statement issued by the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Olalekan, the Army said troops at the Forward Operating Base in Danare responded promptly after being alerted to the presence of foreign military personnel in the area.

According to the statement, Nigerian forces quickly contacted the relevant Cameroonian military authorities, leading to the withdrawal of the foreign troops from Nigerian territory in line with established border protocols. The situation was said to have been contained without escalation.
Preliminary findings suggest that the incident may have stemmed from a dispute over the collection of levies on farmland located along the border between Danare in Nigeria and Dadi community in Cameroon.

To prevent future occurrences, the General Officer Commanding the 82 Division has directed the Commander of the 13 Brigade to engage in further discussions with his Cameroonian counterpart. The aim is to strengthen coordination, clarify operational boundaries, and improve cross-border cooperation.

The Army reassured residents that the situation is now stable and under control, adding that troops remain on alert to monitor activities along the border.
It also urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified reports that could heighten tensions in the area.
