PDP Picks Usman Bawa ABG as Kaduna Governorship Candidate for 2027, Vows Tough Action on Insecurity
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State has elected Hon. Usman Bawa ABG as its governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections, with the flag bearer pledging tougher measures against banditry and kidnapping if elected.
Bawa ABG, also known as Alhaji Bawa Garba, emerged winner of the primary election held on Sunday after securing 124,170 votes. He defeated his closest rival, Hon. Haruna Kajuru AG, who polled 22,010 votes, according to the Returning Officer, Prof. Ibrahim Lawal.
In his acceptance speech, Bawa described his victory as a turning point in Kaduna’s political history, dedicating it to struggling families, unemployed youths, farmers, traders, and all residents seeking peace and progress.
“This victory is not for Hon. Usman Bawa ABG alone. It is a victory for every struggling family seeking hope, every unemployed youth seeking opportunity, every farmer praying for security, every trader longing for economic stability, and every citizen dreaming of a peaceful and prosperous Kaduna State,” he said.

The PDP candidate urged other aspirants to unite and work together towards reclaiming the state in 2027, stressing the need to put aside internal differences.
Speaking on the security situation in Kaduna, Bawa ABG lamented the worsening attacks across rural and farming communities, saying many residents now live in fear and uncertainty.
“This painful reality cannot continue,” he declared, adding that security would be his top priority if elected governor.
He promised to strengthen collaboration with security agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders, vigilante groups and local communities, while also improving intelligence gathering and response mechanisms.
Bawa ABG also outlined plans to boost the state’s economy by creating an enabling environment for businesses, supporting agriculture, and empowering youths through vocational training and entrepreneurship programmes.
He further pledged reforms in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and rural development, saying his administration would focus on improving the quality of life across all parts of the state.
“No tribe, religion, or region will be marginalised. Kaduna belongs to all of us,” he said.
He expressed confidence that with unity within the party and support from the people, the PDP would reclaim Kaduna State in 2027 and restore peace, stability and development.
