Annie Okonkwo, former representative of Anambra Central senatorial district in the National Assembly has died a few days before his son’s inauguration as a House of Representatives member.
According to reports, the politician died in the US after a long battle with a terminal illness on Wednesday, June 7, 2023.
Okonkwo celebrated his 63rd birthday on May 23, 2023.
A foremost businessman and politician, he hailed from Ojoto in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
During his active days, he was a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He later defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Okonkwo was last seen in public when his son, Uche Okonkwo, who won a seat in the House of Representatives, paid him a visit to present his certificate of return.
Uche who won the Idemili North and Idemili South Federal Constituencies, Anambra State under Labour Party will be inaugurated on 13th June 2023, as a member of the 10th assembly.
May the gentle soul of the Distinguished Senator rest in the bosom of our Lord. Amen. May the Almighty God grant his wife, children and extended family the fortitude to bear the huge loss. Amen. Senator Okonkwo was a true Patriot and philanthropic Nigerian who was a role model to many including myself. He was a good Client of Eden Costruzioni Consortium and will always be remembered for his fantastic sense of humour, humility, bluntness sincerity and intelligence. This was a rude shock and we shall miss him dearly. I pray that God Almighty grants his wife and children the courage to bear this irreparable loss. Okonkwo touched too many lives and will forever be remembered as an outstanding legislator, founding member of the APC and mentor to people like myself.
