*When They Ask About Hajj, Say: It Is a Sacred Journey of a Lifetime.*

Narrated ‘Ubaidullah bin `Abdullah:

Ibn ‘Abbas said, ” Usama bin Zaid rode behind the Prophet (ﷺ) from `Arafah to Al-Muzdalifa; and then from Al-Muzdalifa to Mina, Al-Fadl rode behind him.” He added, “Both of them (Usama and Al-Fadl) said, ‘The Prophet (ﷺ) was constantly reciting Talbiya till he did Rami of the Jamarat-Al-`Aqaba.”

Sahih al-Bukhari 1686

*NOTES 📝*

1. This hadith reflects the comprehensive guidance of the Prophet ﷺ concerning the rites of Hajj and ‘Umrah, taught through both his statements and actions, and carefully preserved by the Companions. It references key locations connected to the pilgrimage, including Mina, where rites such as the stoning of the Jamarat are performed, and ‘Arafah, the site of the greatest pillar of Hajj; the standing on the ninth of Dhul-Hijjah. Among the important rites highlighted is Ramy al-Jamarat (the stoning of the pillars), an obligatory act of Hajj established in the Sunnah for those completing the pilgrimage. This rite commemorates the example of Prophet Ibrahim (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him), when Shaytan attempted to mislead him, and Allah commanded him to cast stones at him to repel his whispers and frustrate his evil intent.

2. According to al-Hafidh Ibn Hajar, the saying of the talbiyah (devotional call: “Labbayk Allāhumma Labbayk…”) continues until the stoning of Jamrat al-ʿAqabah on the Day of Sacrifice (10th Dhul Hijjah), after which pilgrims begin their partial release from the state of ihram. He further stated that this view is supported by reliable reports from companions like Ibn ʿAbbas and was upheld by major scholars such as al-Shafiʿi, Abu Hanifah, Ahmad, and others. However, there were differences of opinion, some believed the talbiyah should stop upon entering Makkah or approaching the standing at ʿArafah. These various positions reflect different interpretations of companion practice and the flexibility in ritual observance. – Fathul Baari, Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani

3. Lastly, al-Hafidh discussed when precisely the talbiyah should end, whether after throwing the first pebble or completing the full stoning ritual. The majority of scholars support stopping it with the first pebble, but others like Imam Ahmad and some Shafiʿis argue it ends only after the seventh (final) stone is thrown. A strong hadith reported by Ibn Khuzaymah backs this latter view, offering a detailed clarification of what was previously ambiguous. The narration also hints that those who were reported to have stopped the talbiyah earlier may have done so to focus on other forms of remembrance, not because talbiyah was no longer valid as opined by al-Hafidh. Fathul Baari, Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani

Sending Blessings Upon the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) on the Day and Night of Friday The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
Indeed, Friday is among the most blessed of days. Increase your sending of blessings upon me on this day, for your blessings are presented to me, and the earth is forbidden from consuming the bodies of the Prophets.”
Whoever sends blessings upon me sincerely, Allah will grant him tenfold blessings, raise him ten ranks, reward him tenfold, and remove ten of his sins.”
