NSCDC SEALS TWO CHINESE FIRMS OVER ALLEGED RAILWAY INFRASTRUCTURE THEFT

According to the NSCDC, the action followed the discovery of what it described as a sophisticated criminal network allegedly responsible for vandalising critical national infrastructure.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Corps said it obtained a court order authorising the closure of all branches of the companies across Nigeria as investigations continue.

The agency said the suspects are facing charges including conspiracy, theft, destruction of railway assets, concealment of stolen property, and alleged financing of terrorism.

Operatives of the NSCDC Special Intelligence Squad reportedly carried out a raid on a facility in Birnin Yero, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, where railway sleepers and tracks were recovered and handed over to the Nigerian Railway Corporation as evidence.

Investigators also alleged that stolen railway materials were transported to company headquarters and other branches for processing and conversion into products such as nails and roofing sheets.

The Corps further extended the sealing order to facilities in Abia and Zamfara States, as well as all other branches linked to the companies nationwide.

According to the statement, the Chinese nationals involved in the management of the firms have been formally invited for questioning but are yet to appear before investigators.

The NSCDC Commandant General, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, directed officers to ensure professionalism throughout the investigation and vowed that anyone found guilty would face full legal consequences.

The Corps also commended the judiciary for supporting the operation with legal backing and urged citizens to continue providing useful intelligence to combat infrastructure vandalism.
